Materials continue to change long after construction is complete. Their character emerges through time, use, and exposure rather than installation alone.
The most enduring surfaces are valued not for their perfection, but for the evidence they gather through everyday life.
Filled stone, timber, and untreated metals respond gradually to light, touch, and environment. Small imperfections become part of how a material is understood rather than flaws to be removed.
Travertine is particularly responsive to this process. Its open pores, variation, and subtle shifts in tone become more noticeable as the surface ages and settles into use.
Material selection should anticipate change rather than resist it. Patina is not deterioration. It is often the point at which a material begins to reveal its fullest character.
